Improvements to Satara - Chalkewadi - Patan Road

Introduction

Satara-Chalkewadi-Ghanabi-Patan Road is a part of infrastructure development for Wind Energy Projects at Chalkewadi and Vankusawade and is spine road for proposed New Mahabaleshwar hill station project. This road was taken-up by MSRDC for development on B.O.T. Basis.

The total length of the road is 64.08 Km and status of the road as per Road Development plan 1981-2001 is as follows.

Out of the above length, length from Satara to Chalkewadi i.e. Km.00/000 to Km.24/000 and Ghanbi to Patan i.e. Km.44/000 to Km.64/080 was taken up for improvement by MSRDC. Length between Chalkewadi to Ghanbi Km.24/000 to Km.44/000 is with MEDA (Maharashtra Energy Development Agency). The road work was divided in three parts viz.

1) Widening and strengthening of Satara - Chalkewadi - Ghanbi - Patan Roads Km. 6/500 to 24/000.
2) Widening and strengthening of Satara - Chalkewadi - Ghanbi - Patan Road Km.45/000 to Km.64/080.
3) Construction of three bridges including approaches on Satara - Chalkewadi - Ghanabi - Patan road across river Urmodi, Tarali & Ghanbi in Satara District.

The work of widening and strengthening included the Earth Work, WBM, BBM, 75 mm thick BM 50 mm thick, carpet 25 mm thick open graded premixed carpet with seal coat.

Salient Features of the Bridges Constructed

The salient features of the bridges constructed are as following.
1.Urmodi Bridge (Km.6/730)
  • Length = 89.00 m
  • Spans = 7 span of 12 mm c/c
  • Lanes = 2 lanes
  • Substructures & super structure :- Open foundation in hard rock RCC piers & RCC continuous solid slab superstructure & mass concrete abutments.

2.Tarali Bridge (Km. 22/250)
  • Length = 14.00 m
  • Spans = 2 span of 7m each
  • Lanes = 2 lanes
  • Substructures & super structure :- Open foundation in hard rock RCC plate piers & RCC continuous solid slab
    super- structure, RCC wing walls.

3.Ghanbi Bridge (Km. 46/367)
  • Length = 16.00 m
  • Spans = 2 span of 7m each
  • Spans = 2 span of 8m each
  • Substructures & super structure :- Open foundation in hard rock RCC plate piers & RCC continuous solid slab
    super- structure, RCC wing walls.

The road work between Km.6/500 to 24/000 is completed. The work between Km.45/000 to Km.64/080 is also completed except small minor works. The Bridge works along-with the approaches are also completed.

The said road length has been handed over to Zilla Parishad, Satara for maintenance & repairs who are the owner of the road.
